Dave joined the USL Faculty for the 24-25 academic year. We asked him a handful of questions to get better acquainted with him in just his 1st month at USL. Take a look!
- How many years have you been in education or teaching? 31 years
- What is your favorite thing about teaching? The positive response from students when something you planned lands well!
- What do you enjoy about connecting with students? As I get older, I really enjoy the fact that the kids keep me young. I think young people bring a more genuine version of themselves when they feel connected to the course and the teacher.
- What is your favorite book? The Harry Potter series. I can’t tell you how many times I have read it or listened to Jim Dale give the audio version!
- What are you reading now? I am currently reading through some of my back issues of the Smithsonian Magazine. There are always some interesting historical tidbits in there.
- What is your favorite inspirational quote? “There are no wrong answers in history – only NO answer or an unsupported one could fall into that category.” – Dave Fuller, circa 1995
- What is a fun fact about you that people would be interested or surprised to know? I appeared on Jeopardy! in 2004, leaving as a one day champion and winning $33,000.
- What do you do for fun or when you aren’t at school? I am learning to become more handy around the house to help my wife with the renovation of her father’s house in Summerville, where we currently live. I also like to travel, am an avid (possibly rabid) fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and live vicariously through my family.
- What is unique about University School? The first things that caught my eye were the LOTC opportunities! The small community gives everything a much more personal feel. I love the fact that I am only a few days into this new experience and I know everyone’s names! USL is a place where everyone is INVESTED! It’s a great feeling.
